How Can Children Celebrate Halloween Safely in the COVID Era?
The CDC has put out their recommendations for holiday celebrations right through the holiday season.

Here are some lower-risk activities for celebrating Halloween.
- Decorate your house or apartment
- Have a Halloween scavenger hunt in your home
- Have a pumpkin carving or decorating contest with members of your household or immediate family members
- Hosting virtual costume contests
- Having Halloween movie nights with members of your household
- Making fall recipes as a family
- Trick-or-treating around the house, similar to Easter egg hunts
- Rather than trick or treating, have small neighborhood socially distanced costume parades
- Decorate your yard for outdoor drive-by enjoyment
- Include a face mask with any costume that is worn
- If you do participate in trick-or-treating, consider leaving candy outside rather than interacting with trick-or-treaters
- Consider leaving individual treat bags rather than treat bowls
- Do not participate if you or any member of your family is sick, or if you have been in contact with anyone who is sick
- Maintain proper social distancing in any activity you and your child take part in outside your home
- Stay away from crowded indoor events
- Have children refrain from eating candy and removing their mask, touching their face until they are home and everything can be disinfected, hands washed properly
Children are already aware that this year will be different for all upcoming holidays, younger ones might not understand. It’s important to still have fun while being safe, which is the most important thing.
