Having a Safe Thanksgiving Gathering
Last year Thanksgiving gatherings were severely restricted due to COVID. This year many families are planning their Thanksgiving feasts once again. Here are some tips to make it a safe Thanksgiving gathering.
General Safety
- Plan outdoor gatherings if possible. If not, open windows to increase circulation.
- Make sure attendees are vaccinated. If not sure, use rapid testing and/or wear masks.
- Keep children away from hot surfaces
- Turn pot & pan handles inward to prevent tipping
- Keep candles out of reach of children and not within 12 inches of anything combustible
- Lock children out of the pool area unless an adult is supervising them
Food Safety
- Make sure all food is thoroughly cooked to proper temperatures especially the turkey or other poultry
- Identify and notify attendees of any food prepared with food such as nuts that could cause an allergic reaction
- Do not allow the food to stay out all afternoon or evening.
- Reheat leftovers to 165 degrees. Sauce, soups, and gravies should be brought to a rolling boil.
